Brian McGackin wrote an interesting piece
in The New York Daily News about the lack of "manliness" in today's literature and a lack of masculine writers like Ernest Hemingway.

Whilst the piece mentioned Hemingway - the prime example of masculine writers - it curiously omitted Jack London.
ReplyDeleteBut, more significantly, it also failed to mention the fact that most of the extreme violence in modern thrillers is written by women - this is especially true of British female writers. And the fact that the majority of these books are bought and read by women, suggests that the blurring of the lines of delineation is coming from both sides.
If course, we still have Andy McNab and Chris Ryan to write the Boy's Own adventures. On the other hand this might not be considered literature.
