The New York Post Editorial Board offers a piece on the Senate confirmation of Debo Adegbile.
As director of litigation for the NAACP’s Legal Defense Fund, Debo Adegbile put himself at the center of a public campaign on behalf of convicted cop-killer Mumia Abu-Jamal. Now President Obama has nominated this man to head the civil-rights division at the Justice Department.
And all that stands between Adegbile and his appointment is a Senate confirmation.
Let’s start at the beginning. In 1981, Abu-Jamal murdered Philadelphia police officer Daniel Faulkner. The evidence against him was overwhelming. He was convicted and sentenced to death.
The facts have never really been in doubt. But the left painted Abu-Jamal as the victim of a racist justice system, and over the course of three decades of appeals he became a cause célèbre.

Even the most offensive criminals deserve a robust defense. However, there is no sensible reason for certain attorneys to be elevated to important federal positions -- especially when certain attorneys do more than defend their clients (they also endorse and support their clients). But, alas, the federal government is now in the hands of activists rather than sensible and responsible citizens. Of course, I could be overstating the case.

ReplyDeleteYou're right. The Justice Department under Holder and Obama is staffed with activists who want social change rather than prosecutors who want to put criminals in prison.
I have no problem with Adegbile defending Abu Jamal, but I do have a problem with a cop killer attorney like him serving in the Justice Department.
This will offend crime victims, cops, federal agents and average citizens.
