I recall going to school in
South Philadelphia some years ago with my friend Dan.
Dan was not very bright.
One day in English
class the teacher asked the students, “What do we call a phrase or sentence
that negates itself.”
The teacher’s pet, a goofy little guy named
Norman, yelled out, “An oxymoron!”
Dan looked at me and said, “Isn’t an oxymoron a
dumb ox?”
Today Dan is a congressman.
